Maharaja was a good horseman, tennis player & golfer.
Maharaja helped India's greatest Tennis player Sri. Ramanathan Krishnan to participate at Wimbledon.
Maharaja was responsible for the India's greatest off-spin bowler, Sri. E. A. S. Prasanna's visit to the West Indies in his maiden test series as his father was otherwise reluctant to send him.
In 1946, he organised the XII Indian Olympic Games at Bangalore by building a modern Stadium, which was then named as Sri Jayachamarajendra Stadium (now renamed after his father and called Sree Kanteerava Stadium) complete with Sports Township to accommodate the participating sports persons.
He was also well known for his marksmanship and was highly sought- after by his subjects whenever a rogue elephant or a man-eating tiger attacked their immediate surroundings. There are many wildlife trophies attributed to him in the Palace collections.
